A new Newsweek poll provides some interesting information regarding the beliefs of Americans about Jesus and his birth.

-79% believe Jesus was born of the virgin Mary without a human father.

-67% believe that the entire story of Christmas—the Virgin Birth, the angelic proclamation to the shepherds, the Star of Bethlehem and the Wise Men from the East—is historically accurate.

-55% beleieve every word of the Bible is literally accurate.

-93% believe Jesus Christ actually lived.

-82% believe Jesus Christ was God or the Son of God.

-61% believe there would be less kindness if Jesus had never been born.

-47% believe there would be more war if Jesus had never been born (16% say less, 26% say the same).

-63% believe there would be less charity if Jesus had never been born.

-58% believe there would be less tolerance if Jesus had never been born.

-59% believe there would be less personal happiness if Jesus had never been born.
