One Book Meme -- BK

Earlier, Layman did his own One-Book Meme, and I thought I would add mine (just 'cause I wanted to).

1. One book that changed your life:

God in the Dock, by C.S. Lewis

2. One book that you’ve read more than once:

Reasonable Faith , by William Lane Craig

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:

Forty Wooden Boats: A Third Catalog of Building Plans, by Editors of Woodenboat Magazine

4. One book that made you laugh:

A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving

5. One book that made you cry:

Onions, Onions, Onions: Delicious Recipes for the World's Favorite Secret Ingredient by Linda and Fred Griffith

6. One book that you wish had been written:

How to Effectively Communicate the Gospels to Thinking Skeptics, by anyone

7. One book that you wish had never been written:

Holy Blood, Holy Grail by what's-his-name

8. One book you’re currently reading:

A Treasury of English Ghost Stories, by Michael Cox and R.A. Gilbert

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:

The Jesus Dynasty, by James Tabor (but it's so hard to actually start reading what I know I'm going to hate)

10. One book you wish you had written:

God in the Dock, by C.S. Lewis

God in the Dock is a great book.

You're reading ghost stories? How strange. This last weekend I picked up 3 books of ghost stories, one deliberately fiction, the other two not deliberately fiction but collections of stories from people who think they've seen ghosts. Fun stuff, though a few of the "real" stories are awfully ... erm, well, I take them with a shaker of salt.

Though one ghost story in the fiction collection by Ambrose Bierce had the same basic approach as The Sixth Sense. Wonder if Shyamalan had ever read it.

Layman, Obviously, I agree!

WF, Yeah, its kinda' interesting that I should go for ghost stories, but I really enjoy them. I don't like gruesome stories (I don't even bother with most horror movies since they are more slash and attack than suspense), but I love the real creepy ones where weird things happen.

I should write about ghosts because I'm pretty confident that people are experiencing real things when they tell some of the ghost stories (especially since we had a ghost in my house when I was a lad), but I don't think they are what most people think they are.

I've seen a few of these book memes, but I have never yet seen somebody write 'The Bible' as the book they have read more than once.

I'm curious why.

Umm, Steve. Its not "the" book you've read more than once, its "One" book you have read more than once.

If I was asked which one of the questions could I have answered, "The Bible," I would have listed 1-5, and 8.
But I thought that might get boring and defeat the purpose of the task. In any event, I did list Acts as one book that I've read more than once, because I've read the thing so many times.

I agree with Layman. But in my case, I haven't sat down and read the Bible straight through from cover to cover. However, I have read, at one point or another, every book in the Bible, and many of the more prominent ones (the Gospels, the Epistles, Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, both Kings, both Chronicles, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, Daniel and Jonah) I have read several times over. I didn't include them either for the same reason as Layman -- it would have been pretty monotonous to say over and over to most of the questions "The Bible"

When I got the meme, the strand where I was invited had an "except for 'the Bible'" condition on it -- it was expected that in some categories you'd be giving the second-place answer ...
Steven Carr said…
Yes, I thought that there might orirginally have been an except for the Bible clause.

Sadly, I think I would have to put the NATURAL Error Messages Handbook as the book I have read the most.

Carr,

And you could put Wright's "The Resurrection of the Son of God" as a book you have been meaning to read, given how much you've already written about it.

Wooden boat building...the best answer yet.
